Alls Well - remix first performed at fortyfive downstairs in Melbourne, February 2004

written by William Shakespeare
An Empire built on the fascination, the adoration, of the body. A meeting-place of promise and emptiness, a celebration of the body, a lament for the lost ways of the soul.
the story
Belinda is 'a lascivious girl, who is a whale to virginity and devours up all the fry she finds' - she lives for the dance. The Queen is a wasteland, wrecked upon her worship of the body. Herman will do anything to have Belinda - and she can't stand the sight of him.
A story about a ring, a hole, an emptiness and a bed-trick. Who lies to who to lie with who?
stylistic and performative languages
fortyfivedownstairs is set up as a dance-club, the house dj plays the latest house and trance beats while the harpsichordist plays Bach. From the floor, the bar, the bed, patrons watch the scene unfold on the catwalks amidst dance moves and cardio-striptease. But this is still full-on Shakespeare, sexed-up, danced-up and regendered.
